Lasagna!! Do you love it but think it is to hard to make on your own? Well, I have a great recipe that is very simple, and people will be requesting that you make it ALL the time. I will also give you wine suggestions to top off the fabulous meal.
First, I will give you the original items that I made it with and how I to make it. Then I will give you some suggestions to change it up. This recipe is so basic that you will want to try different options to make a whole different meal. My favorite is always the original lasagna recipe, with good garlic bread and a great bottle of wine. You can’t go wrong!!
Original Lasagna Recipe
Ingredient List
- 1 lb ground beef
- 45 oz jar of Italian sauce (my favorite is Prego)
- Lasagna noodles
- 2 large containers of Large curd cottage cheese
- 4 cups of Mozzarella cheese – shredded
Instructions
- Get a 13 x 9 baking pan. Pour a little of the sauce on the bottom of the pan so the noodles do not stick.
- Brown the ground beef and drain the excess fat. Combine the beef and the rest of the sauce in the pan. Simmer until the sauce is heated.
- Start assembling the lasagna. Start with the noodles, meat sauce, cottage cheese, and then cheese. I usually do two layers.
- Once assembled, I put aluminum foil on top and let it sit for at least an hour.
- Preheat the oven to 375. Bake for 45 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for another 15 to 20 minutes. This will give the cheese a nice browning on top.
- Pull it from the oven and let it sit for at least 30 minutes to set.
Now some may be asking, What about the noodles? So when I make this and have the time to let everything sit, I get regular lasagna noodles and let the hot sauce cook or soften the noodles while they sit. If you do not have time for that, you can cook the noodles ahead of time and do the assembly. I have also used the no-cook lasagna noodles and have had great results too.
What I am going to suggest is making it the original way first, then changing it up to your liking. I like my lasagna a little saucier, but some people like it more cheesy. Adjust this recipe to fit your taste.
Alternate Suggestions for Lasagna Recipe
Meat: ground turkey, ground chicken, meatballs, or no meat at all.
Sauce: homemade sauce or your favorite brand of sauce
Noodles: zucchini
Cottage cheese: ricotta cheese
Mozzarella cheese: so many different choices here.
Now, when we sit down to eat this amazing meal, I usually make garlic bread. If you have a great recipe for garlic or cheese bread, that is amazing, and you should do that. I do not, so I buy it frozen and make it. I get no complaints, but I’m sure it would taste fresh, of course.
To finish off the awesome meal, I usually have a FINE WINE to go with it. It just tops the meal; you will be amazed at what a wine will bring out in the cuisine you are eating. One of my favorites for the lasagna is Cabernet Sauvignon, and another is red Pinot Noir.
